Infrastructure Thought Leaders Series: Engineering Facades with Masonry and Breeze Blocks

Start time 5.00pm AEDT. Join industry experts with extensive experience as they explain the various design considerations, standards, and constraints to take into account when building with Masonry Blocks and Breeze Blocks.
Infrastructure Thought Leaders Series: Engineering Facades with Masonry and Breeze Blocks

Masonry Blocks and Breeze Blocks complement contemporary designs in a range of residential and commercial applications. These products offer a host of benefits in aesthetics, function and design. Breeze Blocks in particular can also present an engineering challenge due to generally being non-load-bearing and requiring a structural component engineered to support them.

This insightful presentation on Masonry Blocks and Breeze Blocks will explain the various design considerations, standards, and constraints to take into account when building with these walling materials. We will also use case studies to explore how engineering challenges have been overcome using various structural options for Breeze Blocks.

Key takeaways

  • Engineering challenges presented by walling materials
  • The ability to meet design considerations, standards, and constraints is imperative to Masonry construction

Preliminary Program

5.00pm – 5.05pm Welcome Address

5.05pm - 5.05pm Presentations and Discussion

6.05pm - 6.30pm Q & A

Speaker

Dr Tatheer Zahra

Dr Tatheer Zahra, MIEAust
Lecturer, School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Queensland University of Technology

Dr Tatheer Zahra has seven years of research experience in structural masonry and high energy absorbing materials. She has been investigating the performance of various types of masonry including reinforced masonry, interlocking mortarless masonry and brick masonry under various loading conditions. Her research in these areas has highlighted several potentials for masonry in the future. Dr Zahra is a member of Standards Australia Committee to outline the design guidelines for mortarless masonry.
