Bridging the Regional Communities

Start time: 5:30pm AEST. Bridging the Regional Communities through the Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication project aims to connect, grow and sustain by improving freight productivity and connections with regional communities and boosting local amenity and regional skills in the civil construction industry.
Joy Baluch Bridge
The Joy Baluch AM Bridge is an important link in the National Land Transport Network at Port Augusta, providing access across the Spencer Gulf for commuter, commercial and freight vehicles in the northern region of South Australia and is a key tourist connection to the Eyre Peninsula, northern South Australia and beyond. The duplication of the 550m Joy Baluch AM Bridge will improve road safety and efficiency for all users, improve freight productivity and importantly improve the resilience of this critical road link.
The Port Wakefield Overpass and Highway Duplication Project aims to reduce traffic congestion on two important State Highways and improve road safety on one of the State’s key intersections.

The Port Wakefield to Port Augusta Alliance (PW2PA), a consortium of CPB Contractors, Aurecon and GHD, in alliance with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport will deliver the Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication in Port Augusta; the Port Wakefield Overpass and Highway Duplication; and the Augusta Highway Duplication Planning Study, between Port Augusta and Port Wakefield.

The presentation will focus on the benefits of the project to the regional communities and the design challenges in the development of solutions for bridges and associated civil structures including steel pile durability and vessel collision load for the new Joy Baluch bridge and the adoption of integral construction that eliminates about 70% of bearings at Joy Baluch and 100% at Port Wakefield bridges.
