An increasing number of public bodies and private companies recognise that the built environment has a vital role to play in reducing carbon emissions. These emissions, commonly referred to as embodied carbon, have largely been overlooked historically but contribute around 11% of all global emissions.
In the run-up to Climate-Smart Engineering, this series will look at how the built environment can reduce embodied carbon emissions.
