At this event, the presenters will discuss specific infrastructure projects currently under construction, or recently completed, so you will gain an understanding of the Safety in Design implementations that reflect the most current practice and hear of lessons learnt from recently completed projects.

You will gain insight into the latest initiatives of Safety in Design in selected infrastructure projects containing civil engineering works, drainage, retaining walls and bridge structures.

As Australia’s infrastructure boom continues to grow, exercising a contemporary understanding of Safety in Design (SiD) that fulfils dynamic project requirements has become an increasing challenge for project engineers.

During this session, our panel discussion will explore the critical value of SiD, provide an insight into contemporary SiD procedures, processes etc, explain management strategies employed across a range of major infrastructure projects and understand why versatility in SiD is essential across project lifecycle stages.

The depth of experience of the panel will provide attendees with a holistic understanding of SiD’s critical benefit to successful project outcomes. This discussion will be applicable to multiple civil and associated structural sectors (not just infrastructure).

Haydn Rogers

Hub Technical Leader (Infrastructure), Laing O’Rourke

With nearing 25 years of experience in the design and construction of a diverse range of projects, Haydn has had significant contribution on some of the most challenging and complex projects, from road and rail to buildings and systems infrastructure. He has been involved on high profile projects such as Melbourne Level Crossing Removals Program (12 Sites), Regional Rail Link (Package C), Brighton Bypass, M1 Upgrade, Port of Melbourne Channel Deepening and the Southern Cross Station. In all these roles he has demonstrated an exceptional ability to evoke thought leadership, gather and lead a broad group of people in executing engineering excellence and effectively manage the overall performance of teams which is demonstrated through his contributions to the delivery of these significant projects.

 

Hannah Irving

Associate, Project Services Hub, Aurecon

Hannah has over twenty years’ experience in the civil and environmental engineering industry. Her experience includes a broad range of water, civil and environmental projects both in Australia and overseas.

Hannah enjoys leading project teams to deliver exceptional project outcomes for her clients. With her ever-growing passion to consider how people interact with infrastructure, she challenges clients and delivery team to consider the human element of every project. Hannah is a trusted advisor who works collaboratively with her clients and colleagues to co-create solutions. Her inquisitive nature assists in unlocking solutions, sometimes perceived as unconventional. Her knowledge of Design to Innovate tools assists to lead discussions fearlessly.

 

Steve Burrows

Design Area Manager – Level Crossings Removal Project, Southern Alliance Program

Steve Burrows is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers with over 25 years international experience in the design and construction of complex multidisciplinary rail projects.

Steve currently leads a team of over one hundred designers on Southern Programme Alliance successfully delivering outline and detailed designs on the challenging Hurstbridge Line Duplication Project.
