Engineers Australia Sydney Office Mezzanine Floor 44 Market Street , Sydney New South Wales, 2000
In-person

Overview

Join us for a unique collaborative learning event between Sydney's College of Leadership and Management, Women in Engineering, Migrant Engineers and Young Engineers Australia groups that will reshape the way we approach mentorship across generations. Gen Z's tech-savvy and independent approach challenges traditional mentoring models.

This exclusive event bridges the gap between Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Boomers, highlighting the unique strengths and perspectives each generation brings to the table.

This event is designed for both mentees and mentors, with a special focus on leaders. Whether you are an experienced leader or an emerging professional with leadership aspirations, this event is for you! Embrace the peer mentor role, where you guide or be guided. Come ready with an open mind to collaborate and make a lasting impact across generational lines.

Learning outcomes

  • defining the mentor’s role: understand how a mentor differs from other roles such as coach, consultant, counsellor and manager, and the unique contributions a mentor makes.
  • directive vs. non-directive approaches: explore how the mentor’s approach can vary based on the mentee's expertise, from being directive to adopting a coaching style (non-directive) that emphasises autonomy and self-reflection.
  • solution-focused coaching model: learn how to utilise a solution-focused coaching model to guide productive and goal-oriented conversations.
  • key interpersonal skills: master essential skills like active listening, asking impactful questions, providing and receiving feedback, building trust, and identifying and affirming strengths.
  • emotional intelligence and relationship building: develop your “way of being” and emotional intelligence skills to build long-term, supportive relationships, stay engaged and recognise and nurture strengths.
