Thought Leaders Series: Economy and sustainability driven designs for concrete floors

About the event

Join our experts as they explore the structural analysis and design of post-tensioned concrete floors.

Sustainability and economic concerns are forcing structural engineers to deliver efficient designs that minimize the use of new building materials. For concrete building structures, this has increased the demand for post-tensioned concrete floors, decreased floor depth, and lower reinforcement ratios. Unfortunately, these design efficiencies increase the risk for serviceability concerns, like deflection and vibrations control, which are often overlooked or crudely approximated during design.

Join our experts as they explore advanced analysis and optimization tools that can help you confidently design code-compliant floors that minimize material and better predict deflection and vibration response. Learn more about the parameters that are used in these rigorous calculations and when traditional methods may fall short.

Key analysis tools covered include:

  • A comprehensive deflection calculation method that accounts for time-dependent effects, cracking, tension stiffening, and load history.
  • A finite-element based vibration analysis that measures vibration sensitivity over the entire floor.
  • A post-tensioned concrete design optimization method that uses intelligent genetic algorithms to minimize material and labor costs of reinforcement.
