Scholarships up for grabs in Australian-first graduate program

Engineers Australia is supporting two talented engineers to join the Australian National University (ANU) Master of Applied Cybernetics, Australia’s first graduate program focusing on the challenges of ensuring new technological systems are safe, sustainable and responsible.

The Bill Hickson and Engineers Australia Scholarship for Master of Applied Cybernetics will be awarded to two successful applicants of the 2023 program and provides a stipend of $30,000 as well as an additional $5000 to support relocation and other education expenses.

Engineers Australia Chief Engineer Jane MacMaster says “we recognise the transformative power of education, not only for individuals, but for the community that benefits from a deeper understanding into this important area of engineering.

“This aligns with our recommendation in the Strengthening the Engineering Workforce report and that includes improving financial support for engineering students, including through scholarships,” Ms MacMaster says.

The ANU Master of Applied Cybernetics is Australia’s only graduate program focusing on the challenges of ensuring the safety and sustainability of AI systems at scale.

These scholarships are named in honour of the late William ‘Bill’ Hickson FIEAust CPEng who was a mechanical engineer and passionate about engineering education.

Bill’s generous donation to Engineers Australia will fund scholarships to support further education in the field of mechanical engineering, recognising the transformative power of education and the importance of engineering in the 21st century.

This scholarship covers study and living expenses and aims to assist engineers to pursue a year-long full-time immersive experience on campus at the ANU from February 2023 to November 2023.

Submit your application before 12:00 pm Friday 9 September.
