Winners announced for student engineering competition

Five teams of Australian engineering students have battled it out for the opportunity to be named the Young Engineers Australia Student Case Competition 2022 National Champions and showcase their skills to the wider profession.

After an extensive review process, conducted by Young Engineers Australia Committee members from around the country, the submissions received were narrowed down to the top five:

  • ACE Consulting: University of New South Wales and University of Technology Sydney

  • Pow(ENGR)puff Girls: Western Sydney University

  • MMAH: Swinburne University of Technology

  • TMT: University of Tasmania and University of Technology Sydney

  • Malleable: Curtin University

Student and Graduate General Manager Samantha Zdjelar says, “the judges had the difficult task of choosing between the top five teams, who were asked to submit a five-minute video presentation for further judging as well as participation in the People's Choice award, providing a chance for the public to view the submissions and vote for their favourite solution.”

At a fantastic livestreamed final event last Thursday evening, five amazing solutions were presented to the case competition problem statement. The judges declared team ACE Consulting, with their social infrastructure proposal, as the Young Engineers Australia Student Case Competition 2022 National Champions.

Team Pow(ENGR)puff Girls were declared as runners up, and the winner of the People’s Choice award this year went to team TMT.

“The calibre of submissions received from all teams this year was exceptional and we would like to acknowledge the hard work and effort put in by every team that participated,” Samantha says.

A very big thankyou to the dedicated and hardworking Young Engineers Australia members who formed this year’s case competition committee and volunteered their time for the reviewing and judging of the initial competition submissions.

You can find more information on each submission in the livestreamed finals event, now available to watch.
