Meet your Young Engineers Australia National Committee Co-Chair Steve Adamthwaite.

Steve shares his goals for the committee and how young members can get involved.

What inspired you to join the committee?

I was supported by Engineers Australia through university and at the start of my career with continuing professional development and networking opportunities. It was important to be able to give back and make sure those opportunities are available to all young engineers.

What can young engineers expect from the committee throughout 2023?

The Young Engineers Australia National Committee will continue to be an advocate for young engineers, particularly within Engineers Australia itself. We have a voice at the Engineers Australia National Congress and are in regular discussions with the executive team about how we can continue to develop opportunities for young engineers. We also work very closely with the national student and graduate staff to plan, promote and execute events like the Graduate Hackathon and Case Competition.

Why is it important for young Engineers Australia members to engage in YEA training and events?

The YEA events are a great way to expand your network while giving young engineers an understanding about what is happening in the industry. I have found my network to be one of the most valuable things I have gained in my career, from job opportunities to new clients and even life-long friends.

How can young members get involved, or in touch, with the committee?

Connect with your local branches through social media: Facebook or LinkedIn. Keep an eye out on the website for upcoming events and follow our national page on LinkedIn, Young Engineers Australia.
