Engineers Australia believes the New South Wales Government’s creation of a dedicated building portfolio is a key opportunity to strengthen the state’s construction sector and deliver better community outcomes.
“The announcement of a new building portfolio and appointment of Anoulack Chanthivong as the Minister for Building is welcome news. It highlights the importance of the sector to the Government and broader community,” said Engineers Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO.
“As the profession’s peak body, Engineers Australia is committed to working collaboratively with NSW Premier Chris Minns and the new Labor cabinet to tackle the NSW biggest challenges,” Ms Madew said.
“The engineering profession is critical to the success of our state, and we look forward to working with the new government to ensure that the engineering profession continues to thrive.”
Group Executive Policy and Public Affairs Damian Ogden said Engineers Australia has been a significant contributor to NSW building sector reform through education, professional indemnity insurance and the push for stronger registration and higher standards across the whole sector.
“This includes providing input on the engineering practice standard in NSW, as well as creating a number of courses in partnership with the government on waterproofing, cladding and site inspections.”
