Major milestone - celebrating our 40,000 Chartered engineer

Engineers Australia had the pleasure of hosting Reza Shahbazian FIEAust CPEng NER, in our Melbourne office to celebrate his status as our 40,000 Chartered engineer.

Reza is a Principal Dam/Geotechnical engineer at SMEC.

Obtaining the Chartered credential is recognition of the highest level of professional excellence capability for an engineering professional and is recognised in Australia and internationally as a measure of excellence.

Michael Luddeni, Group Executive, Operations & Assessments, presented Reza with a certificate to mark the occasion. He said becoming chartered shows exceptional professional competency and a deep commitment to the engineering profession and its code of ethics.

“It's a significant personal achievement to become chartered but it’s also so much more than that because when you’re chartered at Engineers Australia you also become a steward of our code of ethics to uphold public trust in engineering.”

He told Raza “you’ve been recognized today not just for your technical proficiency as a civil and geotechnical engineer, and not just for your prowess in project management, you are being recognised also for your competence and your ability to personify our code of ethics.”

Reza said he is proud of his achievement and obtaining prestigious Chartered status from Engineers Australia which he says is a big step forward in being recognised as a professional engineer.

An important part of Reza’s current job includes reviewing work that has been carried out by the team’s graduates. He provides feedback, mentorship and training sessions to help their learning.

“Mentoring young engineers is a good part of the work for me. Interacting with people and sharing my knowledge and experience with the younger generation of engineers is something I like and it’s a value for me.

“Being an engineer coming to work in Australia from overseas I have brought with me experiences that in some ways are different and I can provide this knowledge to the engineering profession.”

Reza is looking forward to the further development of his experience as an engineer.
