As the year draws to a close, Engineers Australia thanks our Canberra members for your continued support. This will be the last edition of Engineering News for 2024. This is a great time to reflect on the achievements of our members and committee groups, and your contributions to the engineering profession and community.
Canberra President Skye Blair said this has been a significant and successful year for the Canberra Division.
“The long-awaited ACT Professional Engineers Registration Scheme will be enacted March 2025, the Board of Engineering Excellence was established and it was an election year,” she said.
“I am proud to say that the Canberra Division was there to support, represent and advocate for all. It has also been a very productive year for the division. Underpinned by our Operational Plan, and measured through our quarterly Caucus Reports, collectively across the division we delivered more than three events every month, engaged with stakeholders across the ACT Government, Federal Government and built environment coalition.”
Canberra Division hosted seven schools through our ‘Visit an Engineer Program’ and supported several other school expos and careers fairs.
“Our membership is growing, and our recent member sentiment survey shows we're on the right track and delivering value for members. Member value is a high priority for the division, and I thank our committees, office bearers and volunteers for their continued commitment and good work in bringing value to our Canberra engineering community.”
“I also thank our members for their engagement, feedback and contribution to the Canberra community and beyond. Please, if you haven't attended a local event this year, do so next year.”
Site visits, World Engineering Day, International Women in Engineering Day, the Engineers Australia Excellence Awards and Butters Leadership Oration will be a few highlights to look forward to. Save the date for our Ignite networking event to support engineers at all stages of their careers, which will be held on Tuesday 18 February.
“It has been an honour serving the Division Committee as President and I am grateful for the opportunities to meet and represent our members. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday, and looking forward to seeing you in the New Year,” Ms Blair said.
Engineers Australia’s holiday shutdown period will run from 20 December 2024 to 3 January 2025 inclusive. During this time our office will be closed and there will not be any events held.
