Engineers Australia introduces Cyber Engineering Area of Practice

Cyber security and technology are an essential part of everyday life, and their prominence is ever increasing. Engineers Australia recognises the need for more competent engineers to create, oversee and problem solve in this fast-growing sector.

To help support this need, Engineers Australia is pleased to announce the introduction of the Cyber Engineering Area of Practice (AoP), the latest addition to our suite of focused areas of practice. This AoP will allow our engineering workforce to achieve Chartered status in Cyber Engineering.

The Cyber Engineering AoP supports the development of a high-quality pipeline of competent engineering professionals essential to addressing the nation’s cybersecurity challenges. The introduction of this AoP and development of the supporting documents demonstrate Engineers Australia’s leading role in raising industry standards for engineering practice.

Extensive work has been undertaken to bring the Cyber Engineering AoP to fruition. We acknowledge the valuable contributions and extend our gratitude to the Cyber Engineering Working Group members for their tireless work during the development of this area of practice. We also acknowledge the contributions made by the Industry Advisory Group members.

A Cyber engineering practice guide has been developed to serve as an industry benchmark for best practice. This guide, together with the Engineers Australia’s Independent Practice (Stage 2) competencies, provides a robust framework for engineering practitioners in the field of cyber engineering.

Achieving Chartered status in this AoP signifies that a professional possesses the requisite knowledge and competencies, as defined by international standards, for independent and proficient practice in cyber engineering.

Professional Engineers, Engineering Technologists and Engineering Associates members are invited to pursue Chartered recognition in this pioneering Cyber Engineering AoP. For further information, check out how you can get Chartered on our website.
