Meet the 2025 Young Engineers Australia National Committee

We spoke to three new committee members to find out what they are looking forward to and their goals for this year’s committee.

Young Engineers Australia (YEA) elects a diverse, passionate group of new National Committee members who volunteer their expertise and time to provide leadership in key areas including the overall governance and strategic direction of Engineers Australia for the benefit of young engineers.

Engineers Australia would like to congratulate Steve Adamthwaite and Samantha Chapman who will be serving as co-chairs in 2025.

We welcome new members Hasan Muttakin, Sabrina Schoenborn, Wondong Kim and Sidhika Srinivasan who join continuing members Matthew McCormick, Robert Koch, Sangeetha Kamath and Alice Zhao. Each new member will serve on the committee for two years.

This year, some of the committee’s top priorities will be to represent a diverse, inclusive and engaged engineering cohort, move the needle on important issues affecting young engineers, and contribute to national and global discussions—continuing the shared goal of advancing society through great engineering.

Hasan Muttakin says “as a former co-chair of YEA Victoria, I am excited to connect with fellow National Committee members from across Australia. Together, we aim to create meaningful initiatives that will deliver lasting value to our members for years to come.”

A few of Sabrina Schoenborn’s goals are continuing to provide young engineers with access to mentorship, career development programs and networking opportunities, encouraging young engineers to embrace entrepreneurial thinking and contribute to innovative projects and strengthening ties between academia, startups and industry.

“I’m excited to collaborate with a diverse group of engineers, sharing ideas and learning from others with expertise across various fields to achieve our collective goals,” she says.

Wondong Kim is excited about the opportunity to facilitate greater connection between members of the young engineering community through events and networking opportunities.

“I am of the view that building connections with others, both personally and professionally, is one of the most satisfying experiences in life,” he says. “As a YEA national committee member, I hope I can provide such opportunities for Engineers Australia members.

We thank the following committee members whose terms ended in 2024 for their exceptional work: Cindy Ng, Averil Astall, Zoe Little and Tino Baya.

The 2025 committee welcomes members ideas on how to best serve the profession in the young engineers' community. Please contact them at [email protected] with suggestions or discussion points.
