Through her volunteer work with Engineers Australia Samiya Emran has formed lasting friendships and built a nurturing network of colleagues who support one another. She chats to us about her journey into engineering and being the first women in engineering in her family.
What inspired you to choose mechanical engineering as a career?
From a young age, I aspired to become an engineer, driven by a deep curiosity for how things work. I am proud to be the first female engineer in my family, which is a milestone inspired by my maternal grandfather. He was a car enthusiast with a profound understanding of the engineering behind every mechanism. His enthusiasm sparked my interest and instilled in me the ambition to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. My goal has always been to make my family proud by becoming an engineer and pave the way for future generations.
How do you see this type of engineering changing the world for the better?
I believe that mechanical engineers play a pivotal role in shaping the future, serving as the foundation of innovation and progress within companies. The work we do has the potential to drive positive change, not only by advancing technology but also by addressing critical global challenges such as sustainability. Through our efforts, we can create solutions that not only improve the quality of life today but also ensure a better, more sustainable future for generations to come.
