Emerging engineers weigh in on the World Engineering Day theme

To celebrate World Engineering Day, we spoke to four young engineers about the vital role of engineering in shaping a sustainable and resilient future.

How do you see the role of engineering in shaping a sustainable and resilient future?

Ishraf Ismath: Engineering plays a pivotal role in advancing renewable energy integration, developing smart grids and fostering sustainable technologies to combat climate change and ensure a resilient energy landscape.

Casey Flemming: In the development of sustainable and resilient solutions using environmentally friendly materials and renewable energy. I believe that through the support of new technology, engineers can create solutions that will minimise environmental impact and promote a more sustainable future.

Campbell Wright: As the world changes, engineering is changing too. To build a sustainable future we need to make sure we have the right tools in our toolkit to tackle all kinds of unique situations.

Sangeetha Kamath: Engineering will drive innovation in clean energy, smart infrastructure and resource efficiency. From biomining to energy efficient artificial intelligence and greenhouse gas conversion. Groundbreaking research is shaping a cleaner and smarter world.

How can engineering change the world for the better?

Ishraf Ismath: By driving innovations that address global challenges, engineering can lead to cleaner energy solutions, smarter infrastructure and transformative technologies that improve lives and protect the planet.

Casey Flemming: Engineering has the potential to deliver modern solutions that improve the quality of life for everyone.

Campbell Wright: Engineering will change the world! It’s just a matter of how. I think real positive change starts with the individual. Working on projects that inspire you, align with your values and you can feel good about. That’s how we make a real impact.

Sangeetha Kamath: Engineering drives progress by solving complex problems. Today, its biggest challenge is building a sustainable future in the face of climate change.
