From 6 March 2025, professional engineers are required to be registered and will be subject to compliance and enforcement activity.
Engineers must be registered to continue to provide professional engineering services in or for a project or purpose in the ACT.
The current areas of engineering that require registration are:
- Civil
- Structural
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- Fire safety
How to get registered as an engineer
There are four main requirements for getting registered in ACT.
- an ACT Digital Account
- identity documents
- assessment report
- criminal history check.
An assessment report can be obtained through Engineers Australia. The assessment pathway for ACT professional engineers differs if you are an Engineers Australia member, non-member or if you have Engineers Australia credentials.
If you provide professional engineering services to or for the building and construction industry, you’ll also need a building industry endorsement assessment.
You can find out how to obtain an ACT assessment report from Engineers Australia on our website. For assistance, call Engineers Australia on 1300 653 113 or email [email protected]
