Canberra Division President update Friday, 31 March 2017

Update from Engineers Australia Canberra Division President Nick Clarke MBE CSC AFIEAust CEngA EngExec NER.

Three months have passed and we, as a newly formed Division Committee, along with excellent support from the Canberra Division staff, are already producing results.

Engineers Australia Mentoring Program Canberra

We recently launched the Engineers Australia Mentoring Program Canberra for students and young and mid-career engineers.

Nationally, I see the mentoring program as a mechanism to develop engineers and to help link up students and employers. I also see the enormous benefit for the Mentor in helping to shape the engineering profession of the future and gain knowledge from your mentee/mentor relationship regarding new technologies, innovations and even possibly a new way of thinking. I will provide feedback about the program over the coming months.

If you’re interested in participating in the program, please register as a Mentor or Mentee.

2017 Individual Awards and other honours

Nominations for the 2017 Individual Awards, Honorary Fellows and Peter Nicol Russell Career Achievement Memorial Medal are now open.

The Individual Awards recognise professional achievement and engineering excellence. Award winners gain recognition as leaders in engineering at state and national levels and are highly valued within the profession, so please consider nominating in one of the categories.

Honorary Fellow is the highest membership grade of The Institution of Engineers Australia. Eligible recipients are Fellows of Engineers Australia or distinguished non-members. They have rendered conspicuous service to the profession of engineering, are eminent in engineering or an allied science, or a distinguished person whom the Board desires to honour, either for having rendered conspicuous service to the Australian people or in recognition of outstanding achievement.

The Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal – Career Achievement Award in Engineering is the most prestigious award conferred by Engineers Australia to an individual. It is presented annually to an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia who has made a notable contribution to the science and/or practice of engineering in Australia.

Nominate or find out more information about the 2017 Individual Awards, Honorary Fellows and The Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal – Career Achievement Award in Engineering.

New Engineers Australia Fellows

Many congratulations to the ACT members who have recently been awarded Fellow status. To be recognised as a Fellow is an outstanding career and personal achievement.

The year ahead

In the year ahead, we as a Committee are here to support our members. We are also here to ensure that Engineers Australia and the membership are represented at all levels of government, industry and academia. The five areas we are currently focusing on are Future Workforce, Infrastructure, Energy, Defence and Skilled Migration. In our shared leadership approach, we will be looking to create local policy response papers on these areas.

Please feel free to email Canberra Division President Nick Clarke if you have any comments or queries.
