Engineering generosity highlighted by Canstruction® competition Thursday, 24 September 2015

The generosity and skill of South Australian engineers was on show at Engineers Australia’s Canstruction® event, held at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show.

It was the first time that the internationally-renowned competition to construct fantastic, giant-sized structures, made entirely out of canned food, has been held in South Australia.

Teams from Lucid Consulting and Automotive Safety Engineering created interesting and engaging structures based on their chosen thought-provoking themes of sustainability and children in developing countries.

The structures were on prominent display to the 500,000 people who visited the Royal Adelaide Show and were also featured on Channel Seven’s weekend news broadcast.

At the completion of the competition, Canstruction® Adelaide donated over a tonne of canned food to Foodbank, South Australia’s leading hunger relief organisation. Greg Pattinson, Chief Executive Officer of Foodbank South Australia was very pleased that the competition helped so many South Australian families in need, and looks forward to seeing what next year's competition will bring.

Engineers Australia South Australia General Manager Renae Leverenz has encouraged all engineering companies to enter next year’s competition, “Canstruction® demonstrates engineering and design skills like no other competition, it’s an excellent opportunity for engineering firms to showcase their talents and encourage children to become engineers, while benefitting a worthy charity.”

The winners of Canstruction® Adelaide will be announced as part of the 2015 Individual Awards Leading Minds Dinner, held on Wednesday 28 October 2015 in the Orchid Room of Sage Hotel on South Terrace.  More information on this event can be found here.
