2017 Queensland Division President and Deputy Presidents announced

Following recent nominations within the Division Committee, I am pleased to announce the following positions are duly elected to take effect from 1 January 2017:

Congratulations to Chris Nielsen, Ken Gillard and Mark Lendich.

All of these 2017 office bearers are experienced engineers who have served a number of years within our Division. I am confident that they will advance Engineers Australia’s vision to be the “trusted voice of the profession” and “the global home for engineering professionals renowned as leaders in shaping a sustainable world”.

Nominate for National office-bearing positions

Engineers Australia office-bearing positions for the 2017 calendar year are now open for nomination. Nationally, there are positions open on the National Board, National Congress and on College Boards, including the newly formed College of Leadership and Management.

Engineers Australia office bearers bring key strategic value to the profession. If you have the skills and expertise to provide trusted and highly respected leadership and advocacy for the engineering profession, you are encouraged to self-nominate or encourage others to nominate, seeking seconders. The whole organisation benefits from your contribution, so please submit your online nominations by 5.00pm AEST Friday 29 July 2016.

Consider nominating for the 2017 Australian of the Year Awards

I have received a letter from the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk advising that nominations for the 2017 Australian of The Year Awards are open until Sunday 7 August 2016. It would be great to see some of our members, who have excelled in demonstrating the core values we see as being Australian, to be on the nomination list. The Queensland recipients from each Awards category will be announced in November this year and will then represent our state at the Australian of the Year Awards ceremony, held on the eve of Australia Day 2017 in Canberra.

The Australian of the Year Awards rely on the public to submit nominations for fellow Australians they would like to see recognised by the Awards.

There are four Awards categories:

  • Australian of the Year
  • Senior of the Year (65 years and over)
  • Young Australian (16 to 30 years)
  • Australia’s Local Hero
