EA Sydney President's Message - August 2015

Engineering has well and truly made its mark in Sydney this month. Engineering week provided the opportunity for our profession to demonstrate to the community how we innovate in the way we plan, make and deliver solutions for the benefit of all our lives.

From Brigadier Wayne Budd highlighting engineer’s innovative contributions during World War 1 to high school students demonstrating their ingenuity in constructing strong load bearing bridges from balsa wood and glue we have both delved into the past and looked forward to the future of our engineering profession.

We also successfully hosted a lively forum on the WestConnex road project. Facilitating informed debate on issues of relevance to our community at large is a key positive contribution we as a profession can make to society. We all went away from this event with a greater understanding of this major infrastructure activity.

The week successfully showcased our profession to the community and was instrumental in highlighting the many career opportunities open to our youth.

I encourage you all to share with others how engineers have contributed positively to our society and way of life.
