Global Day a global success Friday, 26 February 2016

Engineers Australia celebrated Global Day of the Engineer on 24 February with the widely successful 'Thank an Engineer' social media campaign. Through the use of both static and video content across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Linked In this user led campaign aimed to raise public awareness of the contribution engineers make, to start a conversation about engineering and encouraging sharing of local and iconic Australian innovation.

The content resonated with our audience! Thank an Engineer attracted widespread engagement across both Engineers Australia's and external social media channels, with the Thank an Engineer hashtag trending nationwide on Twitter on Global Day.

Social posts in the lead up to Global day received overwhelmingly positive reactions, with comments varying from followers thanking engineers for their inventions, participants tagging their engineering friends, and engineers themselves feeling appreciative for the increased recognition.

Several politicians took to Twitter to show their support, including Minister Karen Andrews MP, Shadow Climate Spokesperson Mark Butler MP and former NSW Labor Minister Verity Firth.

The campaign also caught the attention of the national media, with Engineers Australia's CEO Stephen Durkin interviewed live on air on ABC Radio 774’s Breakfast with Red Symons in Melbourne, and quoted in news bulletin updates on 2SM Radio Sydney.

SmartCompany, the leading news publication for small and medium businesses, also published an article highlighting Engineer’s Australia’s campaign, titled ‘Why you should give thanks to an engineer you know today’.

Global Day of the Engineer brings together the international community to recognise the accomplishments of engineers, give students around the world a chance to experience engineering and share the amazing innovations engineers create every day.

Engineers Australia is proud to be part of this important global initiative.
