Guide for sustainable engineering Wednesday, 04 March 2015

Following the release of its Sustainability Policy last November, Engineers Australia has now published a guide for engineers on how to achieve greater sustainability in their work.

The guide is a tool for practising engineers to implement the sustainability principles outlined in the policy. It provides a range of suggestions for all stages of a project or product development – from planning and design to project delivery and end-of-life considerations.

“This guide is intended to become the first reference point for all practising engineers when presented with the opportunity to plan, design and build a new product or project, or improve an existing one,” says Engineers Australia’s National President Dr David Cruickshanks-Boyd in the foreword.

Titled “Towards sustainable engineering” the 42-page guide was prepared by consultant Blue Environment for the College of Environmental Engineering. It is available through EA Books under Guidelines/Notes.
