The Tasmanian Government has announced a $4 million dollar upgrade of facilities at the Launceston General Hospital.
Project manager Suzanne Ashlin said the work will include a redeveloped Allied Health Department, a new Special Care Dental Unit and upgrades to the nursing call system.
Launceston firm Premium Constructions has been appointed as the builder and Philp Lighton as the architects.
“The current Allied Health Department has not been upgraded since the LGH was built more than 30 years ago, so this is a very exciting project for the hospital,” Ms Ashlin said.
“The build has some interesting engineering challenges, with our construction taking place over existing sections of the hospital.
“The redeveloped Allied Health department will house physiotherapy, psychology, nutrition, podiatry, social work, speech therapy, occupational therapy and outpatient rehabilitation services.
“We are building new consulting and treatment rooms and the new Special Care Dental Unit will be a first for the LGH.”
Ms Ashlin said there will also be an expanded waiting room and reception areas on Level 2 of the hospital building.
“The nurse call system at the LGH is being upgraded where needed, to ensure it remains state-of-the-art. The duress alarm system will also be overhauled.”
Ms Ashlin said the current Allied Health Department will be located on Level 4 until building works are complete, which is expected to be in September.
