Introducing your new Queensland Division Manager Thursday, 17 November 2016

Stacey Rawlings joined Engineers Australia as Queensland’s Division Manager in October 2016. She has a background in finance, event management, accreditation, advocacy and stakeholder management, with over 12 years’ experience as an association executive from previous roles with the Queensland Law Society and Consult Australia. Stacey is replacing Ian McEwan’s role, with Ian now in the role of General Manager Member Delivery.

Current job title and function?

I am Queensland’s Division Manager. I am the local Engineers Australia contact for industry, government, academia, professional associations and the community. I’ll be responsible for local implementation of the Engineers Australia vision and strategic priorities and the leadership of office staff and volunteers/office bearers.

Why are you working for Engineers Australia?

I have been working for another industry association within the engineering space for a number of years and immensely enjoy engaging with volunteer committees who are passionate about their industry and profession. Engineers are a diverse group of problem solvers and I’m looking forward to working with them as we navigate this period of disruption.

What do you see as one of the biggest issues facing the engineering profession?

The engineering industry has had a really tough time over the last couple of years, resulting in a massive impact on the ability to retain skills locally. Having a vibrant industry that will provide jobs for our future graduates is crucial.

What are you working on now?

I am currently focusing on gaining a broad understanding of our members’ opportunities and challenges and have been lucky enough to so far visit six of our regional groups, including Bundaberg, Cairns, Mackay, Rocky, Gladstone and the Gold Coast. In the next few weeks, I will be visiting Toowoomba and Townsville.

Favourite TV show?

Walking Dead.  I can’t pinpoint why, but I absolutely love it. Makes for a great TV binge on a rainy day.

What is the most recent book you read?

The Girl on The Train. I’d love to be reading more, but at the moment my reading is tending to be Engineers Australia policies and position statements!

What inspires you?

I get inspired by listening to and talking with people who are passionate about their career and who are dedicated to making a change however small that may be.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Friendly, straight-shooter and hardworking.

Ideal holiday destination?

Anywhere that you can combine relaxation with an element of activity. I loved a recent(ish) trip to Tasmania that combined doing the Cradle Mountain six-day walk with a week of wine and cheese tasting.

If you could take a year off to study anything, what would it be?

Either teaching or counselling.
