ITEE College Chair Column - Monitor: April 2017 Thursday, 06 April 2017

Dear Colleagues

Welcome to my second newsletter as Chair of the ITEE College. If you are receiving this issue of Monitor for the very first time I hope you find it interesting and informative. We are updating our distribution list for the newsletter and if you are aware of an EA member who you think should receive it but doesn’t, please send an email to [email protected].

The ITEE College Board and I are committed to establishing close links with its stakeholders, e.g. College members and College Branches and we are committed to seeking feedback from you.

The next issue of Monitor will contain a link to a questionnaire which I urge you to complete as we would appreciate your feedback on what you would like to hear about from the College Board, including your views on the relevance of the Monitor newsletter as well as other questions. We want to ensure that the College Board’s work is visible, transparent, relevant, and College members find benefit in our work.

A further recent development is that the Engineers Australia Board discussed the need to embed diversity, particularly gender diversity, within Engineers Australia’s operations, including its learned society groups. I would therefore like to use this column as the first step in communicating the message out to our members and encourage our female members to engage with divisional ITEE Branches and the ITEE College Board.

I wish to invite divisional ITEE Branches to join the ITEE College Board in setting the gender diversity targets. Our ultimate (i.e. immediate) goal should be to achieve a level of gender diversity that corresponds to the level of participation of female engineers in the engineering profession.

I am sure that our discussions on diversity will progress in the times ahead. Thus, more details on the success of the diversity agenda are yet to come. Monitor is just one of numerous ways we can communicate with each other so please don’t wait until the next issue of the e-newsletter should you wish to get in touch with me and the ITEE College Board. Just please send me an email to [email protected].
