Message from the CEO Monday, 11 December 2017

As a proud EA Fellow, I am no stranger to the important work EA does and having become EA CEO at the start of July I can honestly say that I cannot be more delighted to be working with such a warm, friendly and welcoming group of volunteers and staff.

For the past six years, I was the Managing Director/CEO of TransGrid in New South Wales and I have been involved with various energy companies throughout my career, including as Deputy Chairman of the Energy Networks Association and the Chairman of Grid Australia.

With this experience, I am excited to turn my attention to inspiring and advocating for the engineering profession as the new CEO of Engineers Australia.

Delivering a customer centric approach to our member engagement and ensuring we are meeting the needs of both our current and future member base will be key priorities. We must become a more digital, customer-focused and modern organisation.

Increasing the digitization of our offerings, especially sharing our events online, will give all members access to more EA content and will be especially valuable for those members overseas and in regional parts of Australia. It will also mean EA’s learning resources will be available to you on-demand, 24/7, wherever you may be in the world.

Modernisation is critical. The needs of members and potential members, as both engineers and as consumers, are evolving rapidly - and EA needs to not just keep up, but stay ahead. In particular, we need to provide more support to younger engineers to help them become the best engineers they can be.

These changes will ensure that we deliver increasing value to EA members in a scalable and cost effective way. I am excited to work with you to take Engineers Australia into this new era.

As we approach the end of 2017 and look towards 2018, I’m proud to say that Engineers Australia now has around 6,000 members overseas. During a recent trip to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong it was a pleasure to meet with many EA members and Chapter Committees. I was struck by the genuine passion for the work that EA does. In particular, I was delighted to see how active and enthusiastic our Student Chapters are, who represent the future of the engineering profession.

Overall, the visit to Asia proved to be very fruitful and I look forward to meeting more of our international members in 2018. We will continue to strive to increase our presence in the region through the invaluable work of our overseas chapter committees and our strategic partnerships with various industry, tertiary and government bodies.

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to send you all best wishes for the holiday season. Have a wonderful time with your family and friends and I look forward to working with you all in 2018.

Kind regards,

Peter McIntyre
