National President visits UK Chapter Tuesday, 25 October 2016

Engineers Australia’s National President, John McIntosh, visited the UK chapter in early August to spend time with our members and to strengthen our relationships with UK engineering institutions.

At a member event on 4th August, John provided an update on the Australian engineering industry, which has seen a decline in jobs over the past decade, but is now picking up, particularly in Melbourne and Sydney.

As part of his update, he also shared about the reforms within Engineers Australia, including the opening of the “global home” for EA members – a state of the art facility in the central business district in Melbourne for members and staff; the introduction of the National Engineering Register; and the launch of an insurance business for members called EngInsure.

Within the international space, EA has increased its support of overseas chapters, including the addition of a communications and events staff member, Eleanor Orlando, based in Melbourne, and continued work on Mutual Recognition Agreements. The latter was discussed extensively during John’s visits to UK engineering institutions, ICE, IMechE, IET and IStructE, and we can confirm that MRAs are being progressed with all four institutions.
