Sandra Pouladi MIEAust CPEng NER completed her Masters and Bachelor degree in Petroleum Engineering from Tehran University. She worked for six years in the Middle East at onshore and offshore fields for different operators before migrating to Australia in 2012, where she continued her career path in the oil and gas industry for service companies and Origin Energy in Australian onshore fields.

What is your current job title and function?

I am a Senior Drilling Engineer for Origin Energy, responsible for drilling engineering operations planning and well design, standardisation, well integrity, benchmarking, and engineering performance solutions on a well by well basis

Why did you choose engineering as a profession?

I chose to be an engineer because I thought it would provide a lot of interesting career adventures. Engineering is a field that finds a solution for the most challenging of problems in the world.

Why did you decide to become Chartered with Engineers Australia?

Chartered status is a well-known qualification throughout the world that is considered a professional passport for engineers. Also, the confidence and commitment that I feel as a Chartered engineer are important to me.

If the whole world was listening, what would you say?

I want you to know YOU matter!!!!

What’s the most recent present you bought yourself?

A pair of sunnies.

What is your favourite TV show?

House of Cards.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you like to have with you?

Fully appointed 120-foot luxury yacht, a bottle of wine and sunscreen.

If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, who would it be?

Al Pacino, the world’s greatest actor or J. Lo,  my favourite singer.

What is the most recent book you read?

The North Water, by Ian McGuire.

What was the last movie you went to see?

Passengers.

If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpower to be?

Speed.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Playing basketball, swimming and spending time with family

What is your favourite movie?

The Hobbit.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Consistent, artistic, fun.

What is your ideal holiday destination?

A mixture of sandy beaches, relaxation and nice bars.

What is the greatest piece of technology released in the last decade?

Launch of Apple's iPhone and iPad (smart phones, basically).

What is the best piece of advice your parents gave you?

"If it was easy, everyone would do it."

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by risk. Starting something I have no idea how to finish and witnessing people go for something new.

If you could take a year off to study anything, what would it be?

The art of painting.

What is your motto?

Live now. This is my perfect life motto. I understand the value of every moment, and avoid worrying about things that take away from the moment. It is more important to enjoy life than it is to be perfect, so live now.

How do you achieve work/life balance?

Saturday and Sunday are my dedicated family days. I know what my priorities are. Also, I expect the unexpected and try to be there anytime they need me.
