Registration one step closer for engineers in Victoria Friday, 09 September 2016

The Victorian Government’s consultation paper on establishing a statutory registration scheme for engineers has been released.

The Government believes engineers deliver a critical service to the economy and a registration scheme will provide stronger safeguards for the community, raise the profile of the profession, and promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics education in the State.

Engineers Australia General Manager - Victoria, Glenda Graham is pleased to see the government’s support for a national registration scheme and said Victorian registration is an important step in that process.

“Engineers Australia has long advocated for the registration of engineers and has been actively engaged with the Government as they developed this paper,” said Ms Graham.

“We are now working on a formal response to the paper on behalf of the profession.”

The consultation covers the basic requirements and coverage of the proposed scheme and considers registration arrangements in other jurisdictions.

The consultation paper is available to view on the Victoria State Government website.
