Strengthening Australia-China Relations Thursday, 17 November 2016

Dalian Huarui Heavy Industry Group (DHHI) - the supplier of nine large material handling machines to the Roy Hill Project in Western Australia - recently visited the Engineers Australia Western Australia (WA) office to meet with Engineers Australia WA President Jason Flowerdew, General Manager Susan Kreemer Pickford and WA Chair of the ITEE College, Robert Williamson who is a well-known associate of DHHI.

Based in China, DHHI is the leading enterprise in the line of port and material handling machinery in China, and supply each size of handling equipment for mining, bulk material jetty and container terminals. With a workforce of over 9,000 people and their own design houses with many hundreds of engineers, they are a formidable global engineering company. Supplying machinery to the global market, DHHI have designed, manufactured and supplied stackers, reclaimers, ship loaders and car dumpers to the Australian market. This expertise and knowledge in the field led them to become associated with the Roy Hill Project.

Looking to strengthen their ties with Australia, and in particular WA, Mr Shao Changnan, President of DHHI, along with Mr. Lu Xinmin, Vice General Engineer of DHHI, Mr Wang Lin, Project Manager of DHHI and Ms Li Liping, Project Manager of DHHI visited Perth to visit their clients and review their operations and equipment in Australia.

“The achievements of DHHI in Australia and their willingness to cooperate in the innovation and technology space is another good example of the maturing of relations between Australia and China at the highest levels of Engineering,” Robert Williamson, who is also on the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) WA Executive Committee, said.

 At the meeting, DHHI shared with Engineers Australia the strength of their operations and client engagement.  They are very proud of their engineering capability and acknowledged their desire to increase the diversity of their workforce.  Engineers Australia WA President Jason Flowerdew acknowledged the significance of the visit of one of China’s largest engineering groups. Mr Shao Changnan, President of DHHI spoke of an increased cooperation with engineers in Australia, where they could share technological expertise for the common good of both countries.

The Roy Hill Project, a joint entry by Roy Hill Holdings and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, recently took out three major awards at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards (AEEA) Western Australia 2016 presentation event.

This project has now been nominated for a national Australian Engineering Excellence Award, to be announced at the presentation evening taking place during the Australian Engineering Conference, 23 – 25 November.
