Strengthening engineering’s voice in Tasmania Thursday, 01 December 2016

Engineers Australia, Tasmania has signed on as an Industry Association Member of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) to strengthen the engineering’s profession’s voice, stimulate employment in the engineering industry and provide members with free basic TCCI membership.

The TCCI is an independent membership organisation that positively leads the Tasmanian business community by providing a range of programs and services and giving businesses a voice at all levels of government. It currently represents more than 1,500 businesses.

Engineers Australia, Tasmanian’s General Manager Vicki Gardiner said the partnership will provide an opportunity for Engineers Australia and TCCI to work closely together as advocates for engineering and related industries.

“The partnership will strengthen the voice of the engineering profession in Tasmania,” Dr Gardiner said.

“As an Industry Association Member, we will have direct access to TCCI’s information on the engineering sector and regular policy briefing meetings from the TCCI board.

“Engineers Australia will also be represented on the TCCI subcommittee for Employment, Education, Training and Skills, aligning with the strategies of the Workforce Development Plan released this year.

“We look forward to working with the TCCI to ensure Tasmania has a properly skilled engineering pipeline and stimulating jobs to fit.”

In addition to the advocacy work, the Industry Association Partnership includes free TCCI Basic Membership for all Engineers Australia members located in Tasmania.

TCCI Basic Membership includes:

  • access to all TCCI events, including networking sessions, complimentary or at the TCCI member rate;
  • the opportunity to attend ‘Hot Topic’ briefing sessions;
  • TCCI training courses at the TCCI member rate; and
