Transport smart card readers sold to Malaysia Friday, 18 December 2015

Melbourne-based smart ticketing company Vix Technologies has been awarded a contract to supply card reader modules to the Greater Kuala Lumpur public transport network.

The readers will be situated across train, bus, metro and monorail services allowing passengers to use any of them with a single smart card.

Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, CEO of Land Public Transport Commission Malaysia (SPAD), said the partnership with Vix Technology would complement the efficient delivery of the Government’s Integrated Cashless Payments System (ICPS).

“The supply of these 10,000 CRM devices across the Malaysian transit network, will act as the key customer facing components of the ICPS project, that is designed to make travel simpler, faster and more convenient, reinforcing Malaysia as a global leader in public transport,” he said.

Vix recently established an Asian operations hub in in Kuala Lumpur’s Mid-Valley tech hub to support the company’s Malaysian operations, as well as other programs in Thailand and Hong Kong.

Vix CEO Steve Gallagher said the contract highlighted the company’s capabilities in design, manufacture and supply of both the customer facing ticketing devices and the back office payment technology that supports them.

“The growing partnership with SPAD on this national project is recognition of our strong track record of reliable and innovative transit ticketing and payment schemes around the world,” Gallagher said. “With a new Asian operations hub headquartered in KL, we’re now even better placed to service existing Asian customers, while responding to some exciting new opportunities in the region as well.”

He said Malaysia’s use of the latest contactless readers and payment devices to support the company’s back office upgrades will ensure the entire end-to-end system is future proofed if Malaysia look to upgrade to an open payments system, allowing contactless bank cards and smartphones to be used for payment and access.
