University of Newcastle launch a new Industry Placement Scholarship Scheme Friday, 13 October 2017

The University of Newcastle has introduced a new Industry Placement Scholarship Scheme to connect their high performing engineering and construction management students with valued industry partners.

Industrial experience placements provide University of Newcastle students with the chance to put their learning into practice and gain valuable exposure to the challenges of the workplace environment – that way, when they graduate, they’re ready to hit the ground running. Placements also provide employers with a unique opportunity to help shape the learning experiences of the future workforce.

Through collaboration with their industry partners, the University of Newcastle's Industry Placement Scholarship program provides the industry with direct access to high-quality students and the opportunity to educate the future workforce.

With a strong and consistent success rate of developing career-ready professionals and creating mutually beneficial partnerships, the Industry Placement Scholarship program gives industry partners a competitive edge by allowing our students to bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to your workplace.

Whether you are a large multinational company or a small local business, you can become an industry sponsor by providing financial support and work-based placements for one or more selected students.

UoN gives you the option to choose the right student through a competitive selection process. Students are selected to participate in an Industry Placement Scholarship program by a panel consisting of a representative from your organisation as well as an academic representative of the University.

If you require assistance for short-term projects or would like to mentor a student for the length of their degree, our flexible program options can be tailored to suit your needs.

Why should you take part in the Industry Placement Scholarship Scheme?

At the University of Newcastle’s Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, research excellence underpins education – producing innovative students with a deeper, applied knowledge of engineering and construction.

UoN graduates are in very high demand - just over 92% of our engineering and construction management students were employed on graduation in 2016.

Taking students on work placement can be an excellent way to hand pick future employees and familiarise them with your business. With students in construction management and the engineering disciplines of chemical, civil, computer systems, electrical and electronic, environmental, mechanical, mechatronics, medical, software and surveying – there’s bound to be a University of Newcastle student with the interest and knowledge to match your business needs.

• The industry-sponsored scholarship has a total value of $40,000 over 4 years, to be paid in semester instalments of $5,000.

• Total of 30 weeks’ industrial placement to be undertaken over the first 3 years of the degree, 10 weeks per year in the summer break. Scholars will be covered under the University’s insurance
