The Voice of the Engineering Profession Tuesday, 12 July 2016

Opinion piece written by South Australia Deputy President, Lachlan Kinnear MIEAust CPEng NER

Created to be the trusted voice of the profession, Engineers Australia is a member based association but how does Engineers Australia provide relevance and value to its members?

I see the members as key in determining and guiding the development of Engineers Australia and the services provided. In being the ‘professional home for life’, Engineers Australia reaches out to engineers in our global practicing environment, connecting our members and enabling them to provide input.

The connections established need to be between our members, our stakeholders, our leaders and the decision makers in business and the community. The connectivity, partnerships and ability of the association to be the voice of its members and provide pathways for tomorrow's engineers is vital to be able to shape, build and care for the environment around us.

If you want to be part of Engineers Australia and gain value from being involved, then I ask why not be part of the many opportunities to influence and shape the association.

Nominations for office bearer positions are now open

Engineers Australia office bearer positions for the 2017 calendar year are now open for nomination.

Nationally, there are positions open on the National Board, National Congress and on College Boards, including the newly formed College of Leadership and Management.

We also currently have a number of South Australia Division Committee positions open for a two-year tenure. The division committee is working to develop a number of initiatives, aimed to strengthen our position as the trusted voice of the profession as we influence government policy and build our profile in the wider community. If you would like to take a leadership role on policy positions, please nominate as a candidate for an office bearer role.

Submit your nominations for the above positions by 5.00PM AEST 29 July 2016.

There are also opportunities to join the South Australian College Branches, Special Interest Groups and Division Groups.

I urge all our members to be part of our dynamic association and make a difference.
