Fitzroy 2023 flood: geomorphology and floodplain management

The January 2023 event (Australia’s largest ever instrumented flood) impacted Martuwarra (Fitzroy River), including Fitzroy Crossing town and surrounding communities. The talk unpacks how geomorphology and floodplain process zones can be used to inform floodplain management, including; using palaeoflood evidence to inform 2023 event magnitude, how one third of the river has bank erosion rates that exceed the development setback, and using post-event nano-satellites to map depositional zones.
