Heritage News: 4th South Australian Engineering Heritage Conference Wednesday, 06 May 2015

Engineering Heritage SA invites you to the 4th South Australian Engineering Heritage Conference on Friday 15th May, with keynote speaker Guy Maron, Adelaide architect and designer of the Bicentennial Conservatory.

A special theme will be the opening up of the River Murray to steam navigation which began with the launch of the locally-built paddlesteamer Mary Ann in 1853. This pioneering vessel was recognised late last year with an Engineering Heritage National Marker.

The program of topics for this year are:

  • Keynote Speaker: Guy Maron, "Heritage and Sustainability in Engineering and Architecture"
  • "Randell’s Dry Dock, Mannum" - Andrew Klenke, Swanbury Penglase Architects
  • "Engineering of the Mary Ann" - Bernard Arnold, Gumeracha & District History Centre & Richard Venus, Engineering Heritage SA
  • "Bridges of the Torrens Valley" - Bernard Arnold & Richard Venus
  • "Vertical Transportation in Adelaide Buildings" - Deane Kemp & Richard Venus

These presentations will cover aspects of engineering in the city of Adelaide.  Anyone with an interest in understanding and preserving our heritage is welcome – you do not have to be an engineer to attend. Registration includes comprehensive conference papers and notes, and a light lunch commencing at 12:30pm. The conference itself will commence at 1:00pm.
