Promoting everyday engineers Thursday, 02 March 2017

Opinion piece written by Niki Robinson FIEAust, 2017 President South Australia.

With support from the South Australian (SA) Division Committee and membership, I am honoured to be serving a second term as President in 2017, and I am pleased to announce that the Division Committee has started the year with increased purpose and commitment to this year’s three key priorities:

  • Member value
  • Voice of the profession
  • Employment pathways.

Each priority will involve initiatives that will set out to achieve success and provide true benefits to our membership.

In addition, other important activities will also be undertaken by both the SA Division and Learned Society Advisory Committees, including gender diversity initiatives, the delivery of high value CPD and activities to increase recognition of engineers.

This year, the SA Division Committee is supporting a local recognition program, #EverydayEngineerSA

Run through social media and targeted at the broader community, the aim is to raise awareness about engineering, aligning with Engineers Australia’s Strategic Priority – The Definitive Voice of the Profession

The campaign seeks to recognise South Australian engineers and engineering related fields, including but not limited to engineers, infrastructure, companies, honour projects, engineering-based events, projects, awards, research and development, universities, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), professors, SA founded innovations and many more.

This campaign proposes to recognise, via social media, at least three South Australian engineering candidates monthly in order to raise the status of engineers in our community.

The #EverydayEngineerSA campaign is currently in its infancy and requires your input into three critical areas. The first, to find a suitable logo which aptly represents the #EverydayEngineerSA campaign; second, to nominate for the campaign; and thirdly, member input to get on board and follow #EverydayEngineerSA.

If you have a suitable #EverydayEngineerSA logo and/or a nomination for the #EverydayEngineerSA campaign, please send them through to [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to another prosperous year.
