Register of International Engineering Technicians

About the AEIT engineering register.

Engineers Australia is a participant in the International Engineering Alliance, comprising of engineering organisations and government agencies that have implemented agreements of substantial equivalence such as the APEC Engineering Agreement and the International Professional Engineer Agreement.

An in principal agreement was reached at the 2016 meeting of the International Engineering Alliance to implement an agreement for International Engineering Technicians (AIET). This agreement covers the substantial equivalence of assessment requirements for practitioners with a standing equivalent to our Engineering Associates. This in principal agreement was reached, in our case, on the basis of the Assessment Statement.

Registrants on the Register of International Engineering Technicians Australia, are entitled to use the postnominal IntETn(Aus). Similar registers are being established in UK, Ireland, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand.

The eligibility criteria for registration on the Register of International Engineering Technicians Australia as set out in the Assessment Statement are:

  • Successful completion of an Engineers Australia accredited or recognised engineering course at Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level
  • Assessment by Engineers Australia as eligible for Chartered status
  • A minimum of five years practical experience
  • At least one year as a fully qualified Engineering Associate
  • Maintenance of continuing professional development at a satisfactory level

AFIEAust CEngA and AFIEAust CEngA NER members of Engineers Australia are automatically eligible to apply for registration on the Register of International Engineering Technicians without further assessment. To apply, complete the AFIEAust application form.

AMIEAust CEngA and AMIEAust CEngA NER who meet the eligibility criteria should complete the AMIEAust application form and attach the supporting documents.
