Affiliate and Companion membership

Affiliates

Affiliate membership of Engineers Australia is open to those who are not eligible for Student, Graduate, Member or Fellow grades. You may have completed a qualification; have an active interest in the engineering profession; are a member of a technical society; or have attained a level of industry experience. 

Companions

Companion membership is open to those who are not eligible for other grades of membership but have reached a level of attainment in a field related to engineering that is equivalent to that required for election as a Fellow or has attained a level of experience comparable to the grade of Fellow.

Guide and checklist for Affiliates

  • At least one primary identification document – a passport photo page, a current driver's license or a copy of your birth certificate
  • Qualification certificate
  • Academic transcript
  • Previous Assessment Letter from EA can be uploaded in lieu of qualifications
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Résumé. 

When completing your online application you will be asked to nominate whether you are applying for Affiliate or Companion membership. The category for Affiliate is:

  • Affiliate (AffilIEAust) – Not eligible for membership in an occupational category, you may have a qualification; have an active interest in the engineering profession; are a member of a technical society; or have attained a level of industry experience.

Guide and checklist for Companions

  • At least one primary identification document – a passport photo page, a current driver's license or a copy of your birth certificate
  • Qualification certificate
  • Academic transcript
  • Previous Assessment Letter from EA can be uploaded in lieu of qualifications
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Résumé. 
  • Support from at least 2 current Engineers Australia Fellow members; OR
  • Statutory declaration explaining why you have been unable to obtain Fellow support.
  • A Statement of Support from a Fellow Member of a reciprocal Engineering body.

When completing your online application you will be asked to nominate whether you are applying for Affiliate or Companion membership.

  • Companion (CompIEAust) – Not eligible for membership as a Member or Fellow in an occupational category but has reached a level of attainment in a field related to engineering, or having interest in common with engineering, that may be deemed equivalent to the level of attainment in engineering required for election as Fellow or has attained a level of experience comparable to the grade of Fellow.

Fees

Upon submission, payment of an assessment fee is applicable to all grades other than Student, First and Second Year Graduates.
Annual fees appropriate to the Membership grade are paid to finalise the application.
