Women in Engineering National Convention Scholarship Winner Announced

The Women in Engineering National Committee (WIENC) endeavours to provide a scholarship each year in support of female engineers who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend the event proposed.

WIENC are pleased to announce the winner of the 2014 Scholarship to the Engineers Australia National Convention 2014 is Jillian Kenny, who holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree and is currently a full-time PhD student.  Jillian is a founding director of Machinam Pty Ltd, a company committed to changing the social fabric of education by making maths fun and relevant to real life, as well as a co-founder of Power of Engineering Inc, a non-profit organisation that inspires females and non-traditional entrants to consider a career in engineering.

“While there were a number of applicants who showed commitment to the engineering profession, Jillian’s strong record of providing opportunities for females to consider a career in engineering, and her engagement in a number of themes that will be highlighted at the Convention convinced the panel that the scholarship had been awarded to a very deserving recipient.” said Jocelyn Armarego, Scholarship Coordinator of the WIENC.

Of her win, Jillian commented “It is an honour to be selected as the recipient of this WIENC scholarship and attending the first National Convention for Engineers Australia is a very exciting opportunity.  I am very much looking forward to attending a number of conference streams and particularly those focused around building capabilities and developing future leaders for engineering and STEM.”

The Engineers Australia National Convention 2014 (www.convention2014.org.au) will be held in Melbourne on 24-28 November 2014 and will be the largest engineering event ever held in the southern hemisphere.  The Convention will bring together all areas of the engineering profession with national and international keynote speakers exposing delegates to megatrends and thought leadership that will influence the future direction of engineering in Australia.

The WIENC would like to thank all applicants for the scholarship, and wishes them success in their future endeavours.
