Northern Territory’s 2023 engineering highlights

Welcome to the last edition of Northern Division Engineering News for 2023. Engineers Australia would like to thank you for your continued support. We’d like to take the chance now to look back the achievements of our Northern members and committee groups in 2023, and their contributions to the engineering profession and community.

2023 has been a very busy year in the Northern Division. We have been involved in roundtables, forums, meetings with government ministers and other stakeholders to increase the profile and standing of engineers.

As an Engineers Australia member you have been a crucial part of our work to advance the science and practice of engineering to benefit the community. The work you do to elevate the voice and influence of the profession is so impactful.  Engineers Australia would like to thank you for being a part of the progress we’ve made this year.

This year the division has established two roundtables on energy security and water security as well as a Building Reform working group. The roundtables have both produced published papers, Northern Territory Energy Security position statement and Water security in the Northern Territory. Both groups will continue their work in their respective space in 2024.

The support for the local Excellence Awards was strong and exceeded past years. We received a diverse bunch of nominations and entries for project awards and are excited to build on this success in 2024.

The Hon Eva Lawler MLC became the Patron of the Northern Division, providing the Northern Territory Government with greater access to expert engineering advice for informed decision-making and policy development. Her appointment will help to facilitate potential collaborations and partnerships that will contribute to community growth, infrastructure development and STEM education advancement.

We also delivered a successful ‘Meet the Engineering Community’ event, CEO Roundtable, Trivia Night with you all. Our fabulous school student STEM outreach activities were also a success including our involvement in the Solar Car Challenge program and collaborations with Charles Darwin University.

Northern Division have already begun to plan priorities and events for 2024 and we are always interested in hearing from members.

Engineers Australia’s holiday shutdown period will run from Monday 18 December 2023 to Monday 15 January 2024. During this time our office will be closed and there will not be any events held.

The Northern Division team wish you all the best over the holiday period and into 2024.
