Meet South Australia’s 2024 committee

Engineers Australia would like to welcome Andrew Smith FIEAust CPEng EngExec NER to the SA Division committee for 2024.  

Elected division committee members, headed by Gordan Lesicar, will work together across the year volunteering their expertise and time to provide leadership in key areas including the overall governance and strategic direction of Engineers Australia South Australia. 

Key priorities for the South Australia Division Committee this year are: 

  • Sustainability and climate change 
  • Leadership in risk and insurance 
  • Promoting the profile of engineers and awareness of engineer’s role in society 

Committee members will take the lead in creating focussed action plans on the above priority policy and advocacy issues and bring together task-based teams as required to deliver on planned outcomes. 

The committee will also: 

  • Support the Diversity and Inclusion Sub-Committee's work with overseas qualified engineers and diverse workplaces 
  • Support the SA Division team with STEM in schools activities 

Committee President Gordan Lesicar says in line with Engineers Australia’s strategy, the South Australian Division Committee is looking forward to 2024 to continue our successful progress with Sustainability and diversity and inclusion objectives. 

“In addition to our work with the South Australian Government, universities and industry on STEM and advocacy initiatives, we are also very excited with the recent re-establishment of the Professional Development Advisory Committee (PDAC). The group provides better collaboration between our local Technical Societies, College Branches and the SA Division Committee.”

New committee member

Andrew is a civil engineer with a strong background in infrastructure management and environmental engineering. He works at the Department for Infrastructure and Transport in the role of Asset Management, Lead managing the Department’s diverse road and corridor assets throughout the state. Andrew is looking forward to working with a talented committee to advance many of Engineer’s Australia strategic positions particularly in the areas of climate change and infrastructure management. He keen to contribute to the committee in raising awareness and encouraging collaboration with others around the most important issues and challenges impacting the engineering profession and broader community. Foremost, he will be working to ensure the committee is providing value and contributing future benefits to Engineers Australia members.

Gordan has more than 30 years’ engineering and project management experience working in Australia, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and North America. He has been involved in many multi-disciplinary projects within construction, defence and aerospace, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and water industries.

Deputy President

Tyler is a civil engineer with a passion for sustainability. The South Australia winner of Emerging Professional of the Year 2023, Tyler aims to promote opportunities for young engineers, STEM and sustainability.

Katherine is a current member of National Congress and well regarded as a leader and specialist in the South Australian water and environment sector.

As a committee member his goal is to help engineers play an important role in creating an Australia which is sustainable, resilient, attractive and effective.

Anthony has been a professional engineer for 20 years, mostly spent in the local water and wastewater industry. Anthony’s interest lies in upholding professional standards and supporting positive changes to our industry body and for our members.

Maziar is a professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Adelaide. Maziar is a chartered aerospace and mechanical engineer.

Benedict is an African engineer who migrated to Australia. He supports Engineers Australia’s objectives towards diversity and inclusion, especially towards gainfully employing skilled migrants as engineers in Australia and advocacy for gender balance and inclusion of diverse engineers across forums and presentations.

We would like to thank the committee members whose terms ended in 2023 for their work on the SA Division committee.
