New South Australian engineering school engagement program

Engineers Australia SA is looking for volunteers (individual or businesses) to help with our school engagement program.

Increasing public recognition of engineering and encouraging young students to consider the profession as a career path is a strategic priority of Engineers Australia’s.

Engineers Australia SA Division is interested in engaging with school students throughout the year to inspire a love for STEM subjects and an interest in studying engineering. To do this we’ve created the South Australia Industry Reference Group – Engineering.

The group is comprised of representatives from:

  • Engineers Australia (General Manager SA & Stakeholder Engagement Manager SA)
  • Engineers Australia members (4)
  • SA Department for Education (1)
  • SA Department for Infrastructure and Transport (1)
  • University of Adelaide (1)
  • Flinders University (1)
  • Consult Australia (1)

The group has agreed on rolling out Year 6-8 project activities based on the Department for Education School Industry Partnership.

The next step is establishing scenarios or projects that can be taken into schools, developing a short introductory presentation to explain the profession to students and build a cohort of volunteers to partner with school. Ideas for school projects are welcomed!

How you can help:

We need volunteer engineers from South Australia to commit to one school visit per year for a couple of hours. This could increase to two visits.

Individuals or businesses interested in engaging with students are encouraged to fill out our form to express interest in volunteering

In future, the SA Industry Reference Group may include secondary students in the program and look to provide presentations to senior students about engineering careers.
