AI in education submission to parliamentary inquiry
Engineers Australia’s submission provides feedback on the terms of reference focusing on how Generative AI tools will impact engineering education.
National Hydrogen Strategy Review: Engineers Australia submission
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water are reviewing the National Hydrogen Strategy, first published in 2019. Engineers Australia's submission to the review includes information about the potential for hydrogen to be an important contributor to our transition to net zero through use in industry, transport, grid firming, chemicals and metals production.
Pathway to diversity in STEM review dialogue starter
Engineers Australia calls for diversity and inclusion efforts driven by commitment from organisational leaders and support from government.
Submission to inquiry into developing advanced manufacturing in Australia
Developing Australia’s domestic capability in digital technologies is a must. Engineers Australia calls for government to look at the skills and resource requirements needed to upskill or reskill the workforce to achieve advanced manufacturing capability.
Submission to the Australian Universities Accord
Engineers Australia's submission to the Australian Universities Accord, Aligning education with Australia's national interests, highlights the importance of engineers in our current and future workforce. We outline the significance of higher education in developing engineers to support Australia's sovereign capability and prosperity.
The future of transport discussion paper
With contributions from future of transport working group members this paper discusses pathways to a sustainable, decarbonised transport network including looking at transport though a systems view and enabling greater collaboration for project planning and funding.
Engineers Australia's Budget submission 2023
Engineers Australia advocates for skills, nationally consistent registration, engineering led climate action, a reliable energy transition and support for innovation in the 2023 Federal Budget.
Urban transport systems
The discussion paper is intended to give guidance to policy makers and other stakeholders in planning and delivering Australia’s Urban Transport Systems (UTS). The scope includes changes to the transport systems themselves and associated investment and decision-making processes.
Energy governance and the engineering voice
Barriers to employment for migrant engineers
Overseas-born engineers make up over 58 per cent of Australia’s engineering workforce but are significantly more likely than their Australian-born counterparts to be unemployed. To find out why and identify how to overcome the barriers to employment these engineers face, Engineers Australia commissioned research to identify potential barriers to employment.
Aviation infrastructure
This document has been produced with an aim to improve aviation in Australia and is intended to inform discussions contributing to Australia’s aviation economy, which is essential for communities, industries, businesses, and tourism. The focus of the paper is on the airport, from the air to the land side, including transport infrastructure planning and engineering, today and in the future.
Australia's skilled migration program
In this submission, Engineers Australia demonstrates that demand for engineers in Australia will always outstrip supply from domestic entry level graduates. A skilled migration program will, therefore, always be needed.
Barriers to participation in engineering and the value of interventions to improve diversity
Despite considerable effort, there is still much to be done to improve girls’ participation in STEM education and careers. The Engineering for Australia Taskforce has appreciated the need to act based on four issues they have identified. This paper reviews the international research literature that not only focuses on barriers to girls’ participation in engineering, but more importantly focuses on the value of interventions to improve diverse participation in engineering.
Climate change and transport
This discussion paper is intended to give practical guidance to transport professionals on how they should incorporate consideration of climate change into their work. It should be seen as a statement of principles and objectives and does not replace or supersede engineers’ obligations under other engineering guidelines and standards.
Maritime transport
This document aims to improve marine transport infrastructure and services in Australia. It is intended to inform discussion in relation to the important issues and challenges faced in the industry currently and to ensure the industry has the capacity and capability to efficiently harness future growth opportunities from new and expanded industries.
Rehabilitation engineering in Australia
This paper is intended to promote a nationwide discussion among existing rehabilitation engineers by suggesting a definition and scope of practice for the field in the Australian context. It is hoped that this discussion will help to foster a national identity and to provide a means of establishing broader connections within the field.
Registration of engineers: a case for statutory registration
Australia's next generation of engineers: university statistics for engineering
This report presents Australian higher education statistics for engineering to 2018, focusing on the contribution of engineering education to increasing the national supply of engineers. It also provides detailed statistics for each state and territory and a discussion about the distribution of course commencements and completions between them.
