Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical engineering deals with combining design and problem-solving skills in applying engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes.
Amusement rides and devices
Amusement rides and devices engineering deals with certification in line with the relevant Australian Standard of design, construction, operation, inspection, testing, service and maintenance associated with fixed and mobile amusement rides.
Aerospace Engineering
Aerospace engineering deals with the development of aircraft and spacecraft. The purpose of aerospace engineering is to achieve optimal integrated aerospace systems.
Geotechnical Engineering
Geotechnical engineering deals with the mechanics of soil and rock and its applications to engineering elements.
Fire Safety Engineering
Fire safety engineering deals with the protection of life, property, and environment through the application of engineering principles, rules and judgement to the phenomenon of fire, its physical effects and the reaction and behaviour of people to fire.
Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineering deals with electricity generation, transmission, distribution, electrical equipment manufacture, instrumentation and control systems.
Women in engineering
Identifying avenues for increasing female participation in engineering, by understanding the motivators and barriers around entry and progression.
EHA Magazine, volume 4, edition 2
This edition covers the 90th birthday of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the refugee aeronautical engineer Fred David, the mysterious Bradfield Cylinder, and A Crossley Model XA gas engine at Swift’s Creek.
Commercialisation of engineering innovation
Despite having one of the world’s most educated and wealthy populations, Australia remains a chronic underperformer when it comes to the commercialisation of engineering innovation.
Climate change CPD taskforce: research findings and proposed CPD program
Engineers Australia invited relevant contacts to submit an expression of interest to contribute to the curation of CPD content focusing on sustainability. This report details the findings of that research activity.
Enhancing productivity in infrastructure delivery
This document provides recommendations for implementation by Australian governments, in collaboration with industry and academia, to increase productivity in the infrastructure sector and to determine how engineers can best contribute to these aspirations.
EHA Magazine, volume 4, edition 1
This edition looks at Sydney’s Balls Head coal loader, Canberra’s ill-fated railway, the Lake Canobolas Pump House, and A.T. Harman’s Port Melbourne Engineering Works.
Barriers to employment for migrant engineers
Overseas-born engineers make up over 58 per cent of Australia’s engineering workforce but are significantly more likely than their Australian-born counterparts to be unemployed. To find out why and identify how to overcome the barriers to employment these engineers face, Engineers Australia commissioned research to identify potential barriers to employment.
EHA Magazine, volume 3, edition 9
This edition covers the story of the paddle steamer “SS Phoenix”, Edward Bell, Sydney City Engineer 1856 to 1870, engineering out an epidemic, and repairing the Kempsey Railway Bridge.
EHA Magazine, volume 3, edition 8
This edition covers Jack Mundey AO, 1929 – 2020, recognising wartime service in public utilities, Cockatoo Island – industrial powerhouse, a black summer for Victoria's bridges, Sydney's earliest public water supplies, and a history of the world's roads and pavements.
Barriers to participation in engineering and the value of interventions to improve diversity
Despite considerable effort, there is still much to be done to improve girls’ participation in STEM education and careers. The Engineering for Australia Taskforce has appreciated the need to act based on four issues they have identified. This paper reviews the international research literature that not only focuses on barriers to girls’ participation in engineering, but more importantly focuses on the value of interventions to improve diverse participation in engineering.
Engineering in the Australian curriculum F-Year 10 and Senior Secondary
There is no discrete definition of engineering or engineering capabilities in the Australian curriculum, unlike mathematics, science and technology. Rather, for foundation to year 10, engineering is addressed primarily across three learning areas: science, technologies and mathematics and through a specific focus on engineering principles and systems in the design and technologies strand within technologies learning area.
External Voice Project
The External Voice Project (EVP) is a mechanism for delivering on a set of Engineers Australia Board priorities. This document explains the EVP model.
