With contributions from future of transport working group members this paper discusses pathways to a sustainable, decarbonised transport network including looking at transport though a systems view and enabling greater collaboration for project planning and funding.
Engineers Australia's Budget submission 2023
Engineers Australia advocates for skills, nationally consistent registration, engineering led climate action, a reliable energy transition and support for innovation in the 2023 Federal Budget.
Special provisions for the design of residential slabs and footings and structural design of small structures
This guide is deisgned to assist in site investigations and footing and foundation design situations where information on the subject cannot otherwise be obtained from the normative and informative sections of AS2870.
Engineering Australia’s productivity
This submission puts forward three areas which should be considered by the Productivity Commission in their review on ways Australia can improve productivity into the future.
Women in engineering
Identifying avenues for increasing female participation in engineering, by understanding the motivators and barriers around entry and progression.
Energy governance and the engineering voice
Our position on climate change
Engineers Australia recognises the scale and urgency of the challenges presented by climate change, the disruptions it causes, and the pivotal role of engineering in enabling a socially just transition to a sustainable society.
Barriers to employment for migrant engineers
Overseas-born engineers make up over 58 per cent of Australia’s engineering workforce but are significantly more likely than their Australian-born counterparts to be unemployed. To find out why and identify how to overcome the barriers to employment these engineers face, Engineers Australia commissioned research to identify potential barriers to employment.
Climate change and transport
This discussion paper is intended to give practical guidance to transport professionals on how they should incorporate consideration of climate change into their work. It should be seen as a statement of principles and objectives and does not replace or supersede engineers’ obligations under other engineering guidelines and standards.
Maritime transport
This document aims to improve marine transport infrastructure and services in Australia. It is intended to inform discussion in relation to the important issues and challenges faced in the industry currently and to ensure the industry has the capacity and capability to efficiently harness future growth opportunities from new and expanded industries.
Rehabilitation engineering in Australia
This paper is intended to promote a nationwide discussion among existing rehabilitation engineers by suggesting a definition and scope of practice for the field in the Australian context. It is hoped that this discussion will help to foster a national identity and to provide a means of establishing broader connections within the field.
Report on the fire safety verification model
Fire safety engineers from across Australia tested the Fire Safety Verification Method (FSVM) in the 2019 National Construction Code, using six different typical case studies of performance-based designs that were typical of projects being undertaken at the time. They followed the methodology in the FSVM and associated handbook to identify the benefits and disadvantages of this approach.
Road safety
This discussion paper is intended to inform discussion to reduce the massive social and economic impact of road crashes.
Proposed changes to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation
Engineers Australia welcomes the NSW Government’s work in establishing a better regulatory model for building certification through the Government’s implementation of the findings from the Lambert Review, and from those recommendations the changes to the abovementioned regulations.
Federal budget
Engineers Australia's pre-budget submission for the 2017-18 federal budget.
A Statutory Registration Scheme for Victorian Engineers
Engineers Australia would like to thank the Victorian Government for their leadership in advancing registration of engineers in Australia. Engineering is one of the few professions in Australia without a national approach to registration to ensure the qualifications and experience of all practitioners, both national and international, is at the appropriate level for the engineering service delivered.
Auditor General’s report on Flood Resilience of River Catchments
This paper outlines the views of Engineers Australia concerning flooding and the improvement of the flood resilience of Queensland communities to flooding, in response to the Auditor General’s report Flood resilience of river catchments.
Western Sydney Rail Needs Scoping Study
Engineers Australia strongly believes that infrastructure is the essential enabler of productivity growth and it is essential to preserve and improve our standards of living. It should be fit for purpose and the flow of these services should stay ahead of population and economic growth.
