Engineers Australia's submission to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Infrastructure, Transport and Cities. 

This annual report provides comprehensive information on our achievements for the 2017–18 financial year. It aims to inform members of measurable progress against our strategic priorities., ensure transparent and responsible reporting that meets governance best practice, provide members with information about the key activities of our organisation, and inform stakeholders, partners, media and government of our key areas of focus as the peak body for the engineering profession in Australia.

One of Engineers Australia’s key strategic priorities is to ‘create tomorrow’s engineers’, focusing the organisation on the future pipeline of engineers and building STEM skills capability within the workforce of tomorrow.

This edition looks at Victoria’s Living Heritage Grants Program, the recovery of Edison Street Tubes in Brisbane, the Millewa “A” Pumping Station, and Western Australia’s Pilbara Heavy Haul Railways.

This edition covers the public water supply in Sale, Brewarrina fish traps on the Barwon-Darling Rivers, the significance of windmills, Geelong’s Barwon Sewer Aqueduct, the Sarrans Hydro-Electric Dam in France, and more.

Engineers Australia's response to the Accredited Professionals Scheme Discussion Paper issued by the SA Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. 

This edition explores engineering and industrial heritage in the US, the Railway Bridge over Eddy Avenue in Sydney and provides reflections on engineering in Vietnam.

Engineers Australia welcomes the development of the protocol and we further welcome the direction that the VBA is taking insofar as establishing frameworks and guides that will be available to consumers of services provided by Registered Building Professionals.

Engineers Australia's comments on the draft ‘Accreditation Framework’ that would outline the process by which industry schemes are deemed to provide ‘competent practitioners’ in NSW for building certifiers.

Engineers Australia’s annual report aims to inform members of measurable progress against annual and long-term goals, ensure transparency in reporting, informed by contemporary approaches to corporate responsibility reporting, give due emphasis to the key sections of the Institution including the Divisions, Colleges and Special Interest Groups, to ensure members are adequately updated on all areas of the organisation, and ensure the annual report process encompasses principal reporting obligations flowing from the Charter and By-Laws for the Board, Congress, Divisions, Colleges and Technical Societies. 

Engineers Australia submission to the Senate Standing Committee for Environment and Communications inquiry. 

Engineers Australia believes that all engineering occupations that are currently on the SOL should be retained and this submission is prepared on that basis. The pro-forma on-line questionnaire unduly limits the interests of peak organisations like Engineers Australia in this regard.

Engineers Australia would like to thank the Victorian Government for their leadership in advancing registration of engineers in Australia. Engineering is one of the few professions in Australia without a national approach to registration to ensure the qualifications and experience of all practitioners, both national and international, is at the appropriate level for the engineering service delivered.

This paper outlines the views of Engineers Australia concerning flooding and the improvement of the flood resilience of Queensland communities to flooding, in response to the Auditor General’s report Flood resilience of river catchments. 

Engineers Australia strongly believes that infrastructure is the essential enabler of productivity growth and it is essential to preserve and improve our standards of living. It should be fit for purpose and the flow of these services should stay ahead of population and economic growth.

Engineers Australia has long called for the establishment of an independent body to advise government on critical infrastructure objectives to support long-term social, economic and environmental outcomes for our great state.
